Eurovision: Sam Ryder to represent UK with Space Man

Sam Ryder will represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2023 with the song "Space Man." The singer-songwriter was chosen over five other acts in a public vote on Saturday night.
Ryder, 32, is best known for his TikTok covers of popular songs, which have earned him millions of followers. He has also released two EPs and a single, "Whirlwind," which reached number two on the UK singles chart.
"Space Man" is a power ballad that Ryder co-wrote with Amy Wadge, who also wrote Ed Sheeran's hit song "Thinking Out Loud." The song is about a man who is trying to find his place in the world and is hopeful for the future.
Ryder said he was "honored and excited" to represent the UK at Eurovision. "I think the song is really special, and I can't wait to perform it on the big stage," he said.
The Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Liverpool on May 13. Ryder will be competing against 39 other countries for the top prize.

Eurovision is one of the most popular television events in the world, with an estimated audience of 180 million people. The UK has won the contest five times, most recently in 1997 with Katrina and The Waves' song "Love Shine a Light."
